Baldur's Gate 3 Launches on PS5; Critics Praise Console Version [Update]
The day of the official launch of Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 has arrived, and from the first reviews it seems that we are dealing with as excellent a game as on PC.
UPDATE: As it turns out, the high ratings awarded to Baldur's Gate 3 so far make Larian's game the best rated PlayStation 5 game (per Metacritic and OpenCritic). It is worth noting, however, that the number of reviews is still low and second spot holder Elden Ring can still return to the throne.
Just over a month after release on PCs the acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3 has begun its conquest of yet another platform. The delightful RPG from Larian will be officially available in just a few hours (6 p.m. CET) by all interested PlayStation 5 console owners.
- Those who have not yet ordered their copy can do so via PlayStation Store.
- Players can choose between two versions of the game: standard ($69) and Deluxe ($79), which includes an exclusive dice theme, Rivellon treasure pack and wanderer's pouch, among others.
- Unfortunately, the collector's edition, which could be ordered on the game's official website is no longer available.
Those who have been following the information on the game know that it can steal tens or even hundreds of hours from your life. So before you immerse yourself in the world of Forgotten Realms for good, it is worth taking advantage of the holiday application prepared by Larian Studios on the occasion of the RPG's release on PC.
Baldur's Gate 3 "is a masterpiece on PS5 as well."
Now that the paperwork is behind us, it's worth moving on to the biggest unknown accompanying the release of Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5: the quality of the game on Sony's device. Taking into account the opinions of industry experts made available on Metacritic, the port's quality stands at a very high level. The edition has an average rating of 97/100 (based on 9 reviews).. Below you can take a look at some of the ratings.
- PC Games - 100/100
- Push Square - 100/100
- Vandal - 96/100
- Jeuxvideo.com - 95/100
- GamePro Germany - 92/100
The reviews are, of course, dominated by admiration, as is the case with the PC edition. PC Games editor even risked saying that we are dealing with the same masterpiece as in the case of the PC version..
Particularly important, however, is the fact that the content of the game on PlayStation 5 has not been "stripped down" in any way compared to the version available on personal computers.
However, to find a fly in the ointment, journalists highlighted the flaws of Baldur's Gate 3 resulting from the characteristics of console gaming. According to one of them, the downside is that the game on PS5 supports only gamepads, which makes navigating menus not as easy as with a keyboard and mouse.
Testers did not notice any noticeable performance drops during the gameplay. Nevertheless, at times the game experienced "screen tearing" in performance mode (considerable "jumps" in frames per second are then visible). The game's loading time, which takes about 30-40 seconds (depending on the location), can also be annoyingly long. And although this result is similar to that of the PC version, it can be a bit disappointing for impatient players.
