Simple Gameplay Elements in Baldur's Gate 3 Discovered 'Embarrassingly Late'
Baldur's Gate 3 is full of seemingly simple mechanics that can make the gameplay easier. Some of them are still a puzzle for many players.
If I were to create a list of Baldur's Gate 3's advantages, it would undoubtedly be a very long list. The game needs to be appreciated for a variety of mechanics that come in handy during combat, world exploration and in many other situations. It turns out that there are so many of them that we are not aware of the existence of some. Despite clocking in hundreds of hours in BG3, quite a few players are surprised that they have only now learned about some seemingly simple mechanics..
Darkest place is under the candlestick
In a thread on a subreddit dedicated to Baldur's Gate 3 players decided to exchange experiences about seemingly simple mechanics, the existence of which they found out only after many hours of play. I must admit that reading their statements, I had to fight a tremendous urge to facepalm while simultaneously wanting to shout "dagnabbit, of course!".
The person who started the thread reported that after playing for several hundred hours, he learned that outside of combat, an area spell, such as a cloud of daggers, can be canceled instead of waiting for it to complete its effect. In the comments, there were many examples of mechanics that were discovered under similar natural circumstances.
- You can throw a bottle of toxin on the ground in the camp, and then dip the weapons of all team members into it. After leaving the camp, you can continue exploring and start fighting with weapons that deal extra damage. It is worth noting that this effect disappears only after you take a long rest.
- You can throw a bottle of healing potion not far from the character to heal them (more about this method we wrote here).
- Supplies in the form of food can be kept in a chest in the camp.. There is no need to carry 50 kilograms of cheese in your backpack.
- If you do not want your character to have a visible musical instrument on their back, you can hide it similarly to a helmet, that is, by clicking on a small icon next to the instrument.
- You can trade with NPCs who are not merchants.. Just select the trade button at the bottom of the screen during a conversation.
- If you have a strong enough character, you can keep a corpse in your inventory and throw it at the enemies during combat.
- Pressing TAB on the keyboard will give you access to each companion's four inventory cards. This makes it easier to carry items.
As you can see, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to surprise and probably won't stop for a long time to come. Finally, I leave you with an interesting fact presented by Minsc voice actor Matt Mercer (you may have already seen it, but it's worth reminding anyway). The actor created a tower of crates, climbed it, and then using a teleport arrow moved his character to an adjacent building. You can watch a video showing the feat here.
