Avowed Story Campaign Will Be Completed in Several Hours? Obsidian Stresses the Game Won't Be Overwhelming
Avowed will be another RPG created in the style characteristic of Obsidian Entertainment studio. The developers addressed comparisons of their title with other games.
You've likely observed that Avowed shares some similarities with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, especially if you've seen the promotional materials and gameplay footage from Obsidian Entertainment's new game. In both the upcoming game set in the Pillars of Eternity series universe and the mentioned Bethesda hit, we encounter fantastic themes, a choice system, and a blend of FPP and TPP perspectives.
The devs of Avowed themselves, however, shy away from comparing the game to Skyrim. Carrie Patel, the director of the game, maintains that this is another typical RPG with the characteristic solutions of Obsidian studio (via Game Informer). Comparing Avowed with Bethesda's hit or other big games of this genre is pointless, as this title:
- doesn't have a fully open world (next, closely connected locations are unlocked during the game);
- doesn't offer romance options - you can only flirt with the characters you meet, but establishing romantic relationships (including marriage) won't be possible. This would necessitate greater effort from the developers who aim for every player to have an equally good experience, regardless of their preferences.
I think the best comparison is The Outer Worlds. [...] In terms of the kind of the quest structure, the narrative structure, it's a lot closer to The Outer Worlds [than to Skyrim] -- says Carrie Patel.
It's worth mentioning that at the beginning of this year, the developers of Avowed compared their game with Fallout: New Vegas when talking about the player's goal.
The new game from Obsidian Entertainment won't be massive in scale - it can be completed in a similar amount of time as The Outer Worlds (the average time required to finish the main storyline of this second game is approximately 13.5 hours). People who like to speedrun games must bear in mind that despite the possibility of skipping some battles through persuasion, it won't be possible to play through the entire campaign without absolutely any fighting.
Avowed will be released this year on Xbox Series X/S and PC. On the day of the premiere, the game will be available on the Xbox/PC Game Pass service.
