Assassin's Creed: Shadows Delayed to 2025. Here's New Release Date, Also on Steam
Ubisoft has a new release date for Assassin's Creed: Shadows. The game set in Japan will be released in 2025, also on Steam.
Ubisoft decided to postpone the premiere of Assassin's Creed: Shadows to February 14, 2025 (originally scheduled for November 15, 2024). Interestingly, the game will also be available on Steam on the day one. The French studio also decided to compensate for the delay to players who have already pre-ordered the new installment of "Assassin" - they will receive a refund. People who are planning to pre-order the game will get a future expansion for free.
AC: Shadows has a new release date because of two factors. First of all, Ubisoft decided that the game needed some extra polishing to make its launch go more smoothly than the release of Star Wars: Outlaws, whose sales turned out to be "weaker than expected." Secondly, this decision was dictated by the change in the financial goals of the giant for the current fiscal year (2024-2025) and its approach to game publishing. Ubisoft provided more specifics in a document published today.
- The company is moving away from offering paid early access to the game, which was guaranteed in more expensive editions. All players will be able to start playing in Assassin's Creed: Shadows on February 14, 2025.
- From now on, new Ubisoft games will be released on Steam on the launch day. On Valve's platform, Star Wars: Outlaws will appear on November 21, 2024. Meanwhile, the team responsible for that title set in the Star Wars universe will work on enhancing the game to improve the offered experience and attract a larger audience.
It's also worth quoting a few words from Yves Guillemot, the CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, who, like the entire company, is facing an investigation.
Our second quarter performance fell short of our expectations, prompting us to address this swiftly and firmly. [...] I want to reaffirm that we are an entertainment-first company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push any specific agenda. We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.
Ubisoft had a good reason to withdraw from the Tokyo Game Show 2024, as can be seen. Let's recall that the new installment of the popular series has sparked strong emotions among players since the first trailer and has stirred up a lot of controversy, particularly regarding the approach to Japanese culture.
