Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Menu

Let's start discussing the game from the menu, as there are several useful options hidden here.

  1. Caustic - this feature is located in the video tab. It allows you to set how many water-related graphic effects you want. This is easily seen in the 'sea grid' on the ground, visible in the above screenshot. This option is set to 100%, if it was 0% you wouldn't see them at all.
  2. Bubble quantity - another useful option found in the graphics settings. If you don't like the bubble effect you see on the screen, you can set its frequency here.
  3. Show tutorial - it's a good idea to check out the tutorial the first time, but it will start every time you begin a new game. You will certainly get tired of it sooner or later. If this happens, you can turn it off in the General tab.
  4. Predators - if you don't want your game to plague you with dangerous creatures in the later stages of the gameplay, you can turn them off in the General tab.

Of course, there are more useful options in the menu, such as mute and run game in background or colour blind mode. It is therefore worth taking a closer look at them.

Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Terrain

There are different types of terrain in the game. Some are visible at first glance. For example, you can’t construct buildings if it's too steep, or too deep (although some buildings require access to depth). However, sometimes the terrain is not so clearly visible. It is then useful to look at the circle next to the building that is being placed. It detects whether the terrain beneath it is suitable for the structure or whether there are necessary raw materials in the area. You will also get a sign in the form of Work efficiency - make sure it is always 100%.

Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Pipelines and Building

Many of buildings in Aquatico must be connected by pipelines. This is the lifeblood of your colony. It carries various raw materials. You will recognise structures that require pipelines by the blue circles around them in the blueprint.

It is worth noting that only one pipe can come out of each building. You must therefore connect your pipelines outside the buildings so that they form a single network. It is also worth leaving some space between the structures. However, not too much, as pipelines are not free. So you do not want to spend plastic and credits for nothing.

Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Resources

Of course, no undersea colony can do without raw resources. You probably don't need to be told that. However, it is worth pointing out that the raw materials in Aquatico are very closely interlinked. If one is missing and you neglect it, you can very quickly get shortages in other sectors of the economy. For example, fuel is necessary for the Plastic Factory. Plastic is a versatile raw material and you will need it for the construction of many buildings, but it is also constantly necessary in the Drone Factory, without it this structure will stop working. Watch out for production chains.

Fortunately, the game keeps you informed of trouble with warnings visible on the buildings. So don't underestimate them and react as soon as they appear.

Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Research

Of course, as in many building games, Aquatico also features technology development. This is divided into tiers, which are separated by Subsurface Base expansion. Of course, successive levels of Research bring great benefits, but they also present you with new challenges. For example, don't be surprised if, after moving up a tier, your residents are suddenly plagued by disease. Be sure you are ready for it.

Aquatico Beginner's Guide - Happiness

Many jobs can be done for people by drones, but not all. This is why it makes sense to have a stable population. This involves meeting the needs of inhabitants. If you neglect them, they may leave your colony after a while. So it is worth making sure they are okay on a regular basis.

Also remember that as you grow, the needs of your people will become more sophisticated. This means that you will have to pay more attention to them.
