Apex Legends has 100M Players, and the Devs are „Just Getting Started”
As much as 100 million users have already played Apex Legends. According to Respawn Entertainment, this phenomenal result is just the beginning, and the creators are already preparing a surprise for the fans of their battle royale.
After more than two years have passed since its release, Apex Legends is still one of the most popular battle royale games on the market. Respawn Entertainment's latest work has already been played by 100 million players. The devs informed about it on Twitter, where a video was published to thank the community focused around Apex Legends. At the end of the video, the date of April 19, 2021 appears, which could mean the announcement of season 9 and, as many players believe, a possible update to the Olympus map.
The result achieved by of Apex Legends, although more than three times weaker than the competitive Fortnite, is still a huge success. Respawn Entertainment joined the battle for the throne of battle royale games quite late and, unlike the even later Call of Duty: Warzone, could not count on the support of a high-profile brand. Despite this, the title instantly gained great popularity. Even before the end of 2019, the game was played by more than 70 million players. Later, Apex Legends somewhat lost momentum, but the game still managed to increase its user base by 30% within a year.
Of course, "100 million players" does not translate into as many people actively playing Apex Legends, but even in this respect the game does not complain about lack of interest. Just take a look at the statistics collected by Steam, where the game is available since November 5. At the time of writing this text Apex Legends is in the top four most popular titles on Valve's platform, with about 100 thousand users in the game. Today's best was 200,000 players.
Apex Legends is equally successful on Twitch - Respawn Entertainment's game is among the 10 titles with the largest number of viewers on this platform. Let's also remember that at the same time as the launch on Steam, the Nintendo Switch version debuted, and we are still waiting for the promised update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. So it's no surprise that back in November, Electronic Arts predicted that Apex Legends would bring in over $500 million in revenue by the end of March 2021. Whether this was achieved, we'll find out after the publisher's next financial report is released, which should happen in the next few weeks.
