Anno 117: Pax Romana Will Allow for Amazing Close-Ups. Ubisoft Explained Why They Bet on Roman Empire
The developer of the upcoming Anno 117: Pax Romana revealed why it was decided to set the new installment of the well-known economic strategy series specifically in the Roman Empire.
During the June Ubisoft Forward show, a new installment of the Anno series was announced. Although the French publisher is currently rather reluctant to share specific information about the mechanics of Pax Romana (let's note that Ubisoft hasn't provided any actual gameplay material), it is trying to boost interest in this economic strategy with further curiosities.
Manuel Reinher, the creative director of Anno 117: Pax Romana, explained the reason for setting the strategy game in the Roman Empire after almost 30 years since the debut of the first installment of the series. The reason is simple - Ubisoft had already developed Anno installments set in the future and relatively recent past, so this time they had to opt for something more distinct, namely antiquity. Fans of the series have long wanted to manage an ancient empire, so this is also an opportunity for Ubisoft to meet their expectations.
Rome is a perfect match for Anno. It's a fascinating era for strategy and builder games alike. It is one of the most iconic Empires of all times and it has a huge impact on our daily lives. It’s an era full of architectural wonders, politics, trade, art and conflict – these themes still ring true today -- said Manuel Reinher.
Furthermore, the devs of Pax Romana stated that the team takes care of the smallest details of the game, which will make it more immersive. The player will be able to zoom in the camera view enough to see children playing in the streets with dogs, and also zoom out to admire the spectacular games. Ubisoft will offer more choices in the new Anno than in previous installments of the series, including: by determining the starting region (Lazio or Albion).
Anno 117: Pax Romana will be released in 2025 on PS5, XSX/S, and PC.
