Original Angry Birds Will Return in Refreshed Version
For a long time, the first installments of the Angry Birds series have been unavailable to players. However, Rovio has announced that they are working on bringing them back in a refreshed version.
- Rovio has announced that it intends to bring back the first installments of Angry Birds to the offer of Google Play and App Store;
- The games will return in a refreshed version, adapted to run on modern mobile platforms;
- No word yet on when the games will be back in stores.
There are few mobile games that have been as successful as Angry Birds. Suffice it to say that the series currently consists of 27 titles, including titles associated with brands such as Star Wars or Transformers. The series has also had two movue adaptations. Unfortunately, fans of the series who would like to return to the roots and play the first installments, lost such an opportunity some time ago. Starting in December 2019, the older Angry Birds games began to disappear from Google Play and App Store.
This move infuriated some players, and only now an explanation was provided. Yesterday Rovio issued a statement, in which it explained the reasons for its actions. It turns out that they are related to how outdated the first Angry Birds games are.
"The thing is, maintaining the highest quality of updates and live operations isn’t possible with our older games, as so many of these games were built so long ago on older technology, using outdated game engines and design. Today’s mobile technology and games landscape has evolved to a place where supporting them was untenable. And we can’t just leave them there and not update them, as games need to comply with all sorts of platform requirements."
At the same time, the company announced that it does not intend to completely abandon the first installments of Angry Birds.
"There’s a big outcry for getting back some of the older fan favourites (Angry Birds Classic, Angry Birds Seasons etc). We also want to say: We are working on it! We will find a way to bring these classic experiences back to you. It might take a while (stay tuned, we will post updates!), but we have something in the works."
The developers admitted that the oldest titles will have to be remade from scratch. So it seems that we can expect refreshed versions of well-known titles, which will be adapted to modern mobile platforms. At the same time it was noted that they will not undergo any major changes. The creators want the players who return to the older versions of Angry Birds to be able to experience them the way they did years ago.
Rovio also confessed that they are currently unable to give even an approximate date for the return of the early installments. However, the studio intends to publish regular updates on the project on Twitter.
