AMD: PS5 and Xbox Series X Will Launch at the End of Year
During the conversation with investors, AMD's CEO Dr. Lisa Su said that the launch of next-gen consoles, i.e. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, should take place during the holiday season this year.
Some experts expect that the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic could delay the release of next-generation consoles - PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. According to the manufacturer of the most important components for both devices - AMD - such a situation will not happen and both platforms will appear on the market as planned, that is at the end of this year.
"We expect revenues from semi-custom products to increase in the second quarter, and especially in the second half of the year, as we will increase production to support the launch of new consoles - PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X - during the holiday season," said AMD's CEO Dr. Lisa Su during a recent conversation with investors.
The reports are consistent with information from Sony and Microsoft. Of course, we can't rule out that the global situation will nevertheless force the corporations to change their plans, but for now it seems that this year's launch of next-gen consoles is not threatened. The only question is what will happen with the availability - recent news has suggested that the number of PS5s in stores may initially be more limited than was the case with PlayStation 4.
