Amazon Removes Offers for Coronavirus-related Price Gouging

Amazon has decided to remove more than one million item sale offers from its website. The reason was false advertisement and price gauging. The case is related to the epidemic of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease labeled as COVID-19.

Amazon joins the corporations trying to limit the negative behaviour in relation to the coronavirus epidemic.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Amazon removed more than one million advertisements that sold misleading products or ordinary items at astronomic prices;
  2. The move is related to the coronavirus epidemic.

According to ABC News, Amazon has removed more than one million products from the store that were misleading the customers. The case is related to the epidemic of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

"Amazon has always required sellers provide accurate information on product detail pages and we remove those that violate our policies," said Amazon's spokesperson in an interview with ABC News.

Currently, the company also pays special attention to offers where normal items are sold at abnormal prices. Using coronavirus to make money in panic and human misery is unacceptable. For this reason, another tens of thousands of advertisements were removed from the website.

"There is no place for price gouging on Amazon. We are disappointed that bad actors are attempting to artificially raise prices on basic-need products during a global health crisis, and, in line with our longstanding policy, have recently blocked or removed tens of thousands of offers," noted the spokesperson.

In the United States, there was also the idea of creating a special law that would help prevent similar situations. It is worth recalling that Amazon is not the only company that reacts to misbehaviour in relation to the coronavirus. Recently several similar decisions were made by Facebook.
