Rumor: Alan Wake 2 in the Works, Funded by Epic Games

Convincing reports have emerged that Remedy Entertainment is already working on Alan Wake 2. The project is to be financed by Epic Games.

Reliable rumors appeared in the web, according to which the next project of Remedy will be Alan Wake 2, a sequel to the action game from 2010. Interestingly, the project is to be financed by Epic Games. The source of these reports is VentureBeat's journalist Jeff Grubb. He revealed this information during yesterday's stream on Twitch.

The investment is said to represent a change in strategy for Epic Games, which wants to fund the development of new games exclusive to its store more often, rather than just buying temporary exclusives shortly before release. According to Grubb, several publishers have tried to acquire the sequel to Alan Wake but it was Epic that came up with the best offer.

Of course, until the information is officially confirmed, it should be approached with caution. However, Grubb is rarely wrong in such matters, and on top of that the rumors sound very convincing. In 2019, Remedy regained the rights to the Alan Wake brand, so it was clear that the team would sooner or later undertake the development of a sequel.

Released in August 2020, the AWE DLC for Control offered many elements referring to Alan Wake, thus confirming that both games are set in the same universe, and the developers announced that they will continue to develop it. A few weeks ago the studio's CEO revealed in an interview that Remedy is working on five projects, and two of them will take place in the same world and will be funded by Epic Games. The latest rumors about Alan Wake 2 fit perfectly with this information.
