Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition Launches Today

Today, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition will debut on the market. The game will be available on Steam and Microsoft Store.

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, a refreshed edition of the classic real-time strategy from Ensemble, will be released today. The game will lauch exclusively on PC.

The title will be available on Steam and Microsoft Store for $19.99.

It is worth adding that AoE3: DE is also available in the Xbox Games Pass subscription on PC.

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition offers the full content of the base game, along with the The WarChiefs and The Asian Dynasties expansions. However, the devs have not limited themselves to refreshing old elements. They also introduced new civilizations (Sweden and the Inca State) and two additional game modes - historical battles and the so-called Art Of War, missions with unique challenges to test our skills.

The game has an interesting approach to interface. Yesterday the devs revealed that in this matter we will be able to choose one of three options. The classic HUD resembles solutions from the original. The layout is the same, but the elements were slimmed down so as not to take such a large part of the screen. The Definitive HUD is modelled on the remasters of the previous two installments and is the most minimalistic. The third option is the Default HUD, combining elements of the other two interfaces. This last option is set as standard.

Many reviews of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition have already been published. The game has an average rating of 79% on Metacritic. The score discrepancy is quite high, but generally reviewers agree that the game retains the charm of the original, while making the necessary changes, including mainly interface improvements and artificial intelligence patches. The editors differ as to whether this is enough. The lowest ratings were given by those who expected more radical novelties. Thus, players expecting an improved version of the original should be satisfied with Definitive Edition.
