Mission 3 | Walkthrough Lost Planet Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

Look around the area and destroy all the energy containers you can find. Activate a Data Post. Don't use the VS, just walk past the fence you can see before you. You'll be attacked by a giant worm. It's one of the toughest fights in the game, but fortunately you don't actually HAVE to fight it - it's a bonus achievement that we'll deal with a little bit later.

If this is your first playthrough, this fight might be too difficult for you, as it requires very precise dashing and targeting. For now, let's just run to the other side of the snowfield. The worm will attack you several times. While his tail attack (hot rocks) is very lame and you can avoid it by simply running, in order to evade the head attack you'll probably have to dash. If you don't manage to do it, it'll eat you on the spot and no amount of Thermal Energy will save you.

When you reach the stairs, activate the Data Post and go further left, to the ruined hangar you can see on one of the screenshots above. Get some T-ENG from the containers around and approach the building. That'll trigger a cut-scene and a boss encounter.

Boss

This fight is very similar to the one you fought at the end of Mission 2, only a little bit more difficult. It's hard to win without a VS, so try not to loose it too soon (there are two of them in the room if you need another one). It's once again very handy to use a rocket launcher and a shotgun simultaneously. You can find the latter outside the building - you might want to take the fight there, as it seems a little bit easier when you have more movement freedom. The most deadly of her attacks is the laser beam, you'll have to jump to avoid it. Generally it's best to jump a lot during this fight, or even use your VS' abilities to hover in the air. Direct fire exchange can be risky, but if you're the one with a VS shotgun, then you have nothing to worry about.

Defeating the worm takes a lot of practice and can be somewhat frustrating at first - Mission 3 - Walkthrough - Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Killing the worm

Defeating the worm takes a lot of practice and can be somewhat frustrating at first. You have to be very accurate with the weapon launcher - despite the fact the targets are big, you must hit them very directly in order to take them out, and it isn't easy at all. You might have noticed weak spots on the worm's body - yellow rings all over its sides. These are the ones you have to take out. The problem is that the monster is always on the move, and the only weapon strong enough to harm it is the rocket launcher (remember to reload after each shot!). The best moment to strike it is after successfully evading the head attack - you then have 3 or 4 seconds during which the enemy is almost completely still. When it sticks out its tail, the goal is quite similar, just approach it and shoot one of the weak spots.

The worm goes down when you destroy approximately 6 weak spots. Rockets are to be found all around the plane, so don't worry about that. When you manage to defeat it, you'll have about 10 seconds of peace, and then... another one appears. Fortunately, to unlock the achievement you just have to kill one of them, so don't bother and run to finish the stage.

HINT: This achievement is unlocked after finishing the mission, so if you chose it through Mission Select screen just to get that unlocked, you still have to fight Basil.
