Think which difficulty level you want to choose
After starting the game, you have to choose which difficulty level you want to play - Beginner, Standard or Proud. This choice is important because it determines the amount of damage you receive and deal. Also, the higher the level, the easier it will be for you to unlock the secret ending. You can't change your decision.
Remember about items for your characters
Moogle shops sell various items such as potions, tents, and accessories. Remember to buy them on a regular basis - they will be useful in more challenging fights. Remember that your companions can have them equipped, too!
Grind if you have problems with winning a fight
If you are stuck on a boss, remember that you can go back to previously visited locations to fight with enemies and get XP. In Kingdom Hearts 3, a few levels make a huge difference - don't be afraid to grind a bit from time to time.
Your Desire and Power choices are permanent
Decide whether you want to play more offensively (Warrior/Vitality) or you want to, e.g. be a powerful mage (Wisdom/Mystic) - these choices will affect unlocked abilities and Sora's overall stats. More about that on one of the pages in our guide.
Assign shortcuts and the command menu
In the menu, you can assign shortcuts that will e.g. allow you to use a specific spell or an item immediately. This is very important because sometimes you can have problems with choosing the right spell or item during a battle. These seconds spent on finding a spell can cost you defeat.
Install new abilities for your party
When Sora, Donald and Goofy level up, they sometimes get new abilities that cost AP. These skills are very useful in combat so remember to install them. Your overall AP pool will increase with new levels. Also, you can get more AP by equipping certain accessories or using specific items.
Listen to what your companions have to say
Donald and Goofy (and, sometimes, characters from other worlds) will provide comments. They can point your attention towards e.g. a Lucky Emblem, or they can tell you what you should do next. Pay attention to what your friends are saying and follow their comments!
Use special actions in battles
Press L2/LT (default buttons) to switch between special actions that you can use during a fight. These commands are unlocked as a battle progresses - choose those that are the most useful for you in that particular moment.
Upgrade your Keyblades
After some time, you will unlock the option to upgrade your Keyblades at shops. This is very important - some of the fights can be really challenging. Only the best equipment will help you win. You unlock new Keyblades e.g. after you complete the storyline of a particular the worlds.
You don't want to watch animations during fights? Turn them off!
Animations for various special attacks can be turned off in the Config menu. This is useful when you having a longer session with the game - these animations are always the same.
Remember, you can return to the worlds you have already visited
Kingdom Hearts 3 offers numerous secrets, collectibles, and even hidden bosses. Many of them can be unlocked later in the game so don't worry that e.g. you haven't explored an entire world yet. You will be able to do that later!
