This page of the guide to Kao the Kangaroo contains information about collecting hearts while completing maps. This will allow you to continuously regenerate your character's health.
Checkpoints
The checkpoints in Kao the Kangaroo look like glowing bells. When you pass such a checkpoint, you can not only save the game, but also regenerate the hero's life. You simply need to punch the bell a few times for one heart and some coins to drop out of it. Each checkpoint can only give you one heart.
Chests
Large wooden chests are another type of collectible in Kao the Kangaroo. They are usually located at the ends of moving platforms, which is supposed to complicate the way to them as much as possible. You will always find 1 heart and many coins in the chests.
Enemies
Some enemies, especially the more difficult ones, drop hearts after they die. Eliminate your opponents to gain new hearts and regenerate the character's life.
