General information | Government Hearts of Iron IV Guide
Last update: 01 February 2017
Aside from the national focuses, you have access to a wide selection of representatives of the government which can be selected for a position. Additionally, developers of the game implemented three major laws that determine the development of military, economy and trade of your country. By changing those laws you will be given access to numerous modifiers that will allow you to influence specific branches associated with the economic power of your country.
Most laws require the appropriate conditions so that they can be introduced. Additionally, some of them, aside from the obvious benefits, come with a series of drawbacks and penalties that can negatively influence the management of your country. In order to change any of the representatives of the government or the active laws you must have a suitable amount of political power at your disposal. Political power is generated each day.
If you want to retain a balance between achieving political goals and choosing politicians you will sometimes be forced to neglect the first one to accumulate enough political power in a short amount of time. Thanks to that you will be able to fill all of the positions quicker and start gaining benefits from that. However, remember that national focuses are one of the most important aspects of your nation's growth, which is why you shouldn't neglect them for too long. It all comes down to a perfect balance between the two, what was mentioned in the previous chapter.
Depending on the branch you will be having access to a specific number of slots that can be filled with a specific number of politicians and military leaders. All of the aspects associated with it are described in the further part of this chapter.
Proper understanding of the political scene is crucial to success. Political parties retain their own names regardless of the language of your game, which is why you can find very sophisticated political powers in the game. To make this a little easier, all of the political parties in the game are marked with specific colors, which represent their ideology.
- Brown color was used to mark the political parties that are associated with fascists.
- Red color was used for communism parties.
- Blue color was used for democratic parties.
- Gray color means that the political party is non-aligned.
Note, that if you're playing in the Iron Man mode, you won't be able to reverse your choices. Think twice before deciding to change the law and read about the benefits resulting from implementing it. Also keep in mind all the negative effects associated with them, as in Hearts of Iron IV every single mistake can compromise your chances for success in the campaign.
An important factor is also the fact whether the country you are playing as has democratic elections. If the elections aren't organized during the whole campaign you won't get any benefits from increasing the influence of a particular political power in your country. If that is the case, you will be better off by focusing on politicians that will allow you to obtain additional modifiers associated with the economy of the nation. It all depends on your final vision of the country.
