Learn the cards and their synergies
A good knowledge of the cards appearing in Gwent Rogue Mage is essential, so if you are just starting your adventure with the single-player mode, take some time to read the descriptions of the newly appearing cards. This will allow you to understand their use, as well as play the cards accordingly to gain synergy.
Learn the rules of the game
The rules of gameplay in Gwent Rogue Mage are slightly different from those you may know from Gwent Witcher Card Game. There is only one round in a duel, and the opponent always puts out the last card, so you can play all the available cards without worrying about running out of cards for the next rounds.
Build your deck wisely
When building a deck in Gwent Rogue Mage, avoid adding random cards that will have no use. Think about what strategy you want to take, and choose the cards in accordance with selected approach. Remember that by adding a large number of cards to the deck, you reduce the probability of drawing key units/spells at the beginning of the game and getting the right synergy.
There are a lot of cards in Gwent Rogue Mage, as well as treasures and artifacts, so experiment with different combinations. Not all combinations will work properly, but this will give you the necessary knowledge of the mechanics of Gwent Rogue Mage and you will be able to use this in further sessions with the game.
It is worth having at least one card that can neutralize, silence or destroy the enemy's reinforced units in each deck.
Plan a path to the Boss
The main goal of Gwent Rogue Mage is to reach the Boss located at the very end of the map. It is worth planning the path you will take to properly strengthen your deck before the final battle. Along the way, you may encounter various Events, Places of Power, treasure chests, as well as more difficult elite opponents - if you don't feel up to it, sometimes it's better to avoid such a duel than to risk defeat just before the end of the expedition.
Think about which reward to choose
After defeating regular opponents, you will be able to add one random card to your deck or remove one card from it. Remember that adding cards to the deck is not always the best solution if you are basing it on a certain combination.
When drawing or removing cards, you can use reroll, but you will have to consume 3 Energy points for each such action.
Learn to manage Energy
Energy in Gwent Rogue Mage allows players to use spells, but it is also used for other purposes:
- When selecting new cards for the deck after winning a duel (you can do a re-roll).
- While going through random Events on the map.
Before you completely use up Energy, think carefully about whether you will quickly reach a point on the map that will allow you to regain some of this resource (Event, Place of Power).
Visit Places of Power
These are special places on the map that come in different colors and provide additional bonuses in addition to restoring a certain amount of Energy:
- Red Places of Power will remove a card from the deck.
- Yellow Places of Power allow the transformation of one card to another.
- Green Places of Power strengthen the selected unit by 3 points.
- Blue Places of Power allow you to duplicate the selected card.
Participate in Events
As you move around the map of Gwent Rogue Mage, you will find points marked with a question mark. When you enter such a field, you activate a random Event (e.g. gambling or a puzzle), in which you will be able, among other things, to gain some Energy or a card, or lose it if the attempt fails.
Check treasure chests
Treasure chests are are always worth visiting, as you can gain useful cards that will help you later in the game. Of course, you don't have to plan the path to the Boss in such a way as to intentionally come across a treasure chest, but in many cases it is a viable decision.
