Gwent Rogue Mage Guide

This guide to Gwent Rogue Mage offers a variety of tips and information regarding this single-player card adventure set in a world straight out of Andrzej Sapkowski's works. The detailed information and advice in our guide will help you learn all the key mechanics of the game, as well as the combat basics. The guide will also help you build a good deck.

Gwent Rogue Mage: Contents

The first major chapter of this guide explains the basics of Gwent: Rogue Mage. Thanks to it, you'll be introduced to the, initially confusing, world of Gwent. The subsections concern the subjects such as combat (and its mechanics), getting around the map and exploration, deck building, and how to correctly use the laboratory.

The second section of this guide to Gwent Rogue Mage is a FAQ with answers to frequently asked questions. The pages below, explain, among other things, what is Armor and its use in combat, how to change the deck, how to reinforce your setup, what happens when the battle ends with a draw, how to change key cards and how to upgrade them (Evolve), whether Gwent: Rogue Mage has any connections to Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, whether your progress is saved in the cloud, and whether you can buy the game on Steam.

The final part of the guide is an Appendix, which broaches subjects such as system requirements (both for PC and mobile devices) as well as language versions and required disk space.

Gwent Rogue Mage: Quick beginner's guide

  1. Take advantage of the synergy of the cards. Familiarity with the Rogue Mage game cards is the key to success, so if you are just starting out, take some time to read the descriptions of the new cards. This will allow you to understand their use, as well as play the cards accordingly so that units gain synergy. For example, a unit reinforcing every other unit appearing on the board by 1 point can be a great opening to a duel.
  2. Try to avoid adding random cards to the deck that will have no use. Think about what strategy you want to take, and choose the cards in accordance with selected approach. Remember that by adding many cards to your deck, you reduce the likelihood of drawing key units/spells at the beginning of the game and getting the right synergy.
  3. Add new cards cautiously. After winning a battle against a regular opponent, you will be able to add one random card to your deck or remove one card from your deck. Remember that adding cards to a deck is not always the best solution if you rely on a certain combination of cards.
  4. Save energy. Energy in Gwent Rogue Mage allows players to use spells, but is also used when selecting new cards for the deck after winning a duel (rerolls can be performed), as well as for random events on the map. Before you use up your energy completely, think carefully about whether you will quickly reach a point on the map that will allow you to regain some of this resource.
  5. Experiment with your decks: there are a lot of cards in Gwent Rogue Mage, as well as treasures and artifacts, so experiment with different combinations. It is known that not all combinations will work properly, but this will give you the necessary knowledge about the mechanics of Gwent Rogue Mage and you will be able to use this in the future.
  6. Plan the path well. The main goal of the game is to reach the main boss on the map, who is located at the very end. It is worthwhile to plan well the path you will take to properly strengthen your deck before the final battle. Along the way, you may encounter tougher, elite opponents. If you don't feel up to it, sometimes it's better to skip such a duel than to risk defeat just before the end of the session.
  7. Use Places of Power. These are special places on the map that come in different colors and provide additional bonuses in addition to restoring a certain amount of energy. Red places of power will allow you to remove a card from the deck, yellow ones allow you to replace one card, green places strengthen the selected unit by 3 points, and blue ones allow you to duplicate the selected card.
  8. Trigger Events. As you move around the map, you will find points marked with a question mark. When you enter such a field, you activate a random event (e.g. gambling or a puzzle), in which you will be able to gain some energy or a card, or lose it.
  9. Look for Treasure Chests. Treasure chests are places that are always worth visiting, as you can gain useful cards that will help you further in the game.
