Cult of the Holy Detonation is the second and final DLC to the warmly welcomed RPG Wasteland 3. The add-on was developed by the authors of the original, inXile Entertainment studio, and it was published by Prime Matter.
Plot
Action of Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation was set in well known, freezing state of Colorado. This time Desert Rangers go to the interior of Cheyenne Mountain, where a secret military facility is located. The base is inhabited by two mutant groups at odds with each other, who have a godlike reverence for the Holy Detonation , which is a nuclear explosion frozen in time. Since, regardless of its nature, it could supply the entire state's energy needs for hundreds of years, our team must strive to take control of it... one way or another.
Mechanics
In Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation a vast military complex awaits to be visited. While exploring it, we meet various characters, complete missions (such as escaping from prison, shutting down reactors or repairing ventilation systems) and make decisions that affect how we are perceived by the different cults that worship the Holy Detonation. Often the lives of certain NPCs also depend on our choices.
The expansion also features turn-based battles with enemies, during which we use previously unavailable weapons and armour. Among the skirmishes, duels with bosses lead the way, which are ruled by slightly different standards than regular clashes. During these we are given specific tasks to test our tactical sense, which must be completed in order for the skirmish to succeed.
Technical aspects
Cult of the Holy Detonation does not introduce any changes to the audiovisual layer of the basic version of Wasteland 3. As it is not a stand-alone add-on, it requires main game to work.
