Warcraft II: Remastered

Warcraft II: Remastered is a refreshed version of the cult real-time strategy game Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, originally released in 1995. The remaster, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, responsible for the brand from the beginning, includes both the base version of the original and the expansion released in 1996, titled Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal.

Plot

The action of Warcraft II: Remastered takes place after the events depicted in the first part of the series. The story told in the sequel focuses on the so-called Second War, or the orc invasion of the land of Lordaeron. The races participating in the war can count on the help of their allies. The forces of good are represented by humans, elves, and dwarfs. On the other side of the barricade stand orcs, goblins, and ogres. Like the original, the remaster offers two story campaigns, one for each side of the conflict.

As for the Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal expansion - its plot revolves around the titular portal, which the orcs can use to launch another invasion. The humans are planning to destroy it, while their mortal enemies must do everything to use it for their own purposes.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Warcraft II: Remastered is based on the scheme created for the first part of the series. Watching the events from a bird's eye view, we gather resources, construct buildings for various purposes and recruit soldiers, whom we then send to fight enemy forces in real time. The war turmoil throws us into various corners of a fantasy land - from forests, through deserts, ending in icy wastelands.

In addition to standard soldiers, such as infantry and cavalry, fighting in close combat, at a distance or using magic, we have at our disposal flying units - dragons and griffins, as well as powerful heroes. Another major novelty are ships and the related possibilities of fighting at sea or building drilling platforms, which are a source of oil (which in turn is a new raw material).

Compared to the original, the game stands out due to a number of conveniences, led by the ability to select a larger number of units at once or a refreshed interface.

Game modes

Warcraft II: Remastered allows to play alone (in story campaigns or individual skirmishes) or in multiplayer mode over the Internet for up to 8 people.

Graphics

Warcraft II: Remastered can be distinguished from the original by refreshed graphics, which have been kept in a cartoonish (but still faithful to the original) style. The authors allow us to switch between remastered and standard versions of maps, effects, and units at any time.
