Vox Machinae is a simulator that allows players to control a giant mech. The revolves around online multiplayer mode and supports the virtual reality technology. The game was created and published by the independent Space Bullet Dynamics Corporation studio. This is the developer's second project (the first one was Signal Ops a spy arcade game released in 2013).

Plot

The Earth's resources have been almost entirely depleted. Many people live in extreme poverty - they try to migrate for work, but many end up in border camps, living only on what the government provides. As a result of the situation, powerful international corporations are beginning to explore space. The player takes on the role of one of their employees - a certified pilot of a giant mech called a "grinder". The armor allows him to efficiently cover long distances in difficult conditions of distant planets, as well as... fight with representatives of other companies. This is definitely not a safe work.

Mechanics

In Vox Machinae players observe the action from the first person perspective. The game revolves around controlling powerful mechs and fighting other players - both on the ground and in air (to a limited extent - the machines are also equipped with rocket propulsion, which allows them to make powerful jumps).

Each match starts with a choice of a mech - there are several machines with different statistics available. Selected equipment can then be adapted to one's playing style. In the game, players can find many weapons and pieces of equipment - the rich arsenal comprises lasers, guns, and rocket launchers, etc. Players can also change the appearance of their mech.

The advanced physics engine plays an important role in the game described herein - thanks to it, individual machines have unique weight allowing players to really feel that they control a powerful steel giant. If you play with virtual reality set, the game also offers support of motion control.

Game modes

Vox Machinae bases mostly on the multiplayer mode - players can play in LAN or via the Internet. The game does not contain a story campaign, but if you really want, you can also take part in bot games. A maximum of 16 people divided into 2-4 teams can take part in each battle.

Production offers two separate modes: Salvage mode (we defend a powerful mining machine while others try to destroy it) and Stockpile mode (we try to take control of as many factories spread over the board as possible).

Technical aspects

3D visuals featured in Vox Machinae present a very decent level of quality. Models, animations, textures, and lighting effects follow the same execution. The designs of individual machines and planets are particularly impressive - they are spectacular, extremely colourful, and maintained in an attractive science fiction style.

The game works with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality goggles, but this type of equipment is not required for the game (we can also play normally, observing the action on the monitor screen). Most importantly, users of each platform can play together - the title supports the cross-play functionality.
