Venture to the Vile is a metroidvania game, presented in the form of an action platformer. The game was developed by the independent Canadian team Cut to Bits, and its release was handled by the company named Aniplex.

Plot

The action of Venture to the Vile takes place in the town of Rainybrook, overrun by a sinister entity known as "The Vile". We embody a hero who, during a meeting with "The Vile", managed to absorb part of its power. The protagonist must use newly acquired skills to help the residents of Rainybrook deal with the threat, as well as find and rescue their missing friend Luella.

Mechanics

In Venture to the Vile we watch the action from the side. Traveling through Rainybrook and its surroundings, we get to know the townspeople, carry out quests for them, as well as solve various puzzles. The game offers dynamic weather and a day and night cycle. Current time of day and weather conditions influence, among other things, types of missions available to us and who we can meet along the way.

This also applies to opponents. Although the streets of the town are quite peaceful, some buildings, areas surrounding Rainybrook and other places visited by our hero (such as the ghost ship) are full of enemies. We explore various locations, jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and terrain obstacles, swinging over abysses, and eliminating enemies by launching quick attacks or making use of various combat skills.

The protagonist faces both rank-and-file opponents and bosses who are much more powerful. By absorbing their power, our character gradually expands the range of their abilities, which are useful not only on the battlefield, but also while exploring Rainybrook and its surroundings. New skill may provide access to previously closed places, so it is worth returning to known locations to discover various secrets or face new challenges.

In addition to this, as we progress, we unlock outfits for the protagonist, which affect their appearance, as well as variously modify the gameplay, increasing the difficulty level or changing the amount of loot we acquire.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of Venture to the Vile was made in 2.5D technique. In selected locations, the game allows us to smoothly transition between the foreground and the background.
