Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms is another installment in the series of shooting games signed with Tom Clancy’s name, who is one of the most popular political fiction writers. The title focuses exclusively on online play, and allows up to 16 players to participate in tactical battles. The game is based on free-to-play model.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms, accordingly with the series’ tradition, lets you visit realistically recreated locations from around the globe, where the major world powers compete with one another. Geared up with top-class futuristic military equipment and a squad of soldiers, you need to prove your tactical thinking, teamwork, and an accurate eye. You have three classes to choose from: Assault, Support, and Recon. They all can be equipped with a special gadget, unique for each type of character. For example, a Recon soldier may use thermo-optical camouflage, an Assault soldier a riot shield, and a Support soldier can create a protective “umbrella” able to reflect bullets.

Throughout the game, you gain new experience levels, upgrade your statistics, and earn new abilities and weapons. Each class has its own unique abilities (like the aforementioned shield), as well as skills that support an entire squad. This aims to encourage players to cooperate with their teammates as closely as possible.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms is a free-to-play production, but offers optional microtransactions. Those who decide to pay some real money, gain faster and easier access to a wider selection of weapons. While designing the game, one of the major objectives of Ubisoft Singapore Studio, was to ensure that players who use paid bonuses did not gain a significant advantage over others, thus, all in-store items can be bought with either the currency earned for in-game progress, or real money.

The title also offers social features, such as ranks, and teams system. For fans of statistics there is a whole module summarizing player’s entire military career in the form of dozens of comparisons and tables. Besides, an achievement system makes it easy to track in-game progress without getting into the aforementioned columns of numbers.

The action is observed from third person perspective. The artwork bears the same economical design, in terms of colors, characteristic of the previous games in series. However, as compared to other free-to-play games, Ghost Recon Phantoms offers high quality visuals.
