Tobal No. 1 is a brawler developed by DreamFactory. As a curiosity, it was the first title in the team's portfolio to be released on CD.
Story
Tobal No. 1 takes place in 2027 on the eponymous fictional planet. The globe attracted the attention of mankind through its huge deposits of a rare and precious resource known as Molmoran, which is to be controlled by the winner of the upcomong 98th martial arts tournament. Thus, both humans and representatives of alien civilizations enter the competition.
Mechanics
In Tobal No. 1 the action is observed from the side. During the game, we play as one of several different fighters (the number of which can be increased by unlocking them in one of the available game modes). Battles take place on arenas; warriors can strike with their fists, use kicks, attack from a jump, circule the enemy and grab them, and block or avoid their attacks in order to launch a quick counter-attack.
Game modes
Tobal No. 1 features several game modes. In addition to the Versus variant, in which we can face the fighter controlled by another player, the tournament mode (where we fight against increasingly powerful opponents) and the training mode are waiting to be tested.
Separate mention should be made of the so-called Quest Mode, in which the action is observed from third-person perspective. The devs enable us to explore the underground, where we must not only avoid murderous traps and fight common enemies but also face bosses (they join the group of playable characters after defeat). However, the devs have not implemented the possibility of saving our progress, so the loss is connected with the necessity of restarting the game; fortunately, the items found along the way come in the form of food that renews health and potions that increase the combat potential of our hero.
Technical aspects
Visuals of Tobal No. 1 are 3D and the game runs in 60fps, which resulted in a reduction in the quality of the visual layer. It should be noted that the character design was supervised by Akira Toriyama, a Japanese mangaka who gained worldwide fame thanks to the Dragon Ball series.
