Battle Arena Toshinden 2 is a continuation of the three-dimensional fight of the Japanese Tamsoft studio, which was originally released in Japan in 1995 on PlayStation and Saturn consoles. The game has almost the same mechanics as its predecessor, there are also the same characters in it, which makes it can be treated as an improved version of the original.
Story
When Secret Society, responsible for the legendary Toshinden tournament, discovers that one of its members, Gaia, convened another competition without her knowledge in order to incite rebellion, she does not hesitate to consider him a traitor. A new tournament is organized to lure Gaia and punish him for betrayal. In the meantime, however, it turns out that one of Gai's former coworkers intends to send not only his former companion, but also all the warriors who took part in the tournament.
Mechanics
Compared to the first part of the cycle, the game has undergone several important changes. First of all, there are three new warriors at the disposal of players: Track, Chaos and the only one to play the role of the barefoot Gaia. New bosses and hidden warriors also appear, increasing the number of characters played to fifteen. In addition, each of the warriors has gained new attacks, including the ability to hit an opponent knocked down on the ground. The model of free removal of combos, known from the original, has been replaced by a system of simple predefined combos. The game itself has been better balanced, and its pace has slowed down to a certain extent, thanks to which the game has become a bit more tactical.
Technical issues
Unlike the original Battle Arena Toshinden, the PC version of the continuation is a direct conversion of the game, released on PlayStation. Since the title is already compatible with Windows 95, it supports 3D hardware acceleration via Direct3D drivers.
