A dynamic space shooter and a sequel to The Collider - a simple arcade game developed by Shortbreak. Set in a science-fiction world, the game casts the player in the role of a space fighter pilot who has to engage in a fight against powerful space invaders to save the human race.
The Collider 2 for PC is a space shooter and a sequel to 2014's The Collider – an arcade game requiring the player to handle a small ball travelling through tunnels filled with obstacles at high speeds. Both games were created by Shortbreak - a small studio, part of the Techland company. The team is known for simple mobile games and Hellraid: The Escape - a logic-adventure game.
Plot
The Collider 2 for PC is set in a science-fiction world. The player assumes the role of a pilot of a space fighter who is forced to fight a powerful space invader, and the existence of the entire human race depends on him. Once conventional combat techniques fail, it turns out the only way to defeat the invading enemy is through getting inside the huge mothership in order to destroy it from the inside in a series of almost suicide missions.
Mechanics
Contrary to the minimalistic original game, The Collider 2 for PC is substantially bigger when it comes to the scope of the project. Apart from a simple storyline, the game offers much more interesting and diversified gameplay accompanied by nice visuals. What remains unchanged since the first title, is the incredible pace of action. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the gameplay requires great reflexes and quick thinking.
The Collider 2 for PC offers over fifty missions. The player has to complete different assignments related to infiltration, reconnaissance or sabotage. The player travels through subsequent tunnels inside the mothership at the speed of light, where, apart from the obstacles already present in the original game, new defensive installations have to be avoided. The player can chose from six fighter ships that are significantly different from each other. The player unlocks new machines by progressing in the game. Additionally, the ships can be customized in terms of visuals and upgrades.
Game modes
Apart from a classic campaign-based mode, The Collider 2 offers an additional game mode called Clash. In this mode, the fighter ship accelerates incessantly and reaches extreme speeds - it is an ultimate test of players’ reflexes and coordination. Scores earned in the Clash mode are sent to an online leaderboard, where the players can compare their results.
Technical aspects
In relation to the minimalistic original game, the successor is miles ahead in terms of the visuals – Unreal Engine 4 was used in production of the game. Additionally, it supports Virtual Reality goggles, such as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive - these are capable of delivering completely new gameplay experience.
