TerraGenesis is a game on the verge of strategy and simulation in which players deal with the terraformation and colonization of alien planets. The game was developed by an independent studio Edgeworks and published by Tilting Point.
Mechanics
In TerraGenesis players receive a number of planets and moons at their disposal, among which one can find objects belonging to the Solar System. The objec are Mercury, Venus and Mars, the moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, as well as dwarf planets such as Pluto (and its satellite - Charon), Ceres and Eris. It is worth noting that the information about them and the topography of their area is based on data collected by NASA. They are accompanied by fictitious globes like Pontus, Boreas and Bacchus.
Before working on adapting the above mentioned objects to begin the settlement, players must join one of the four space groups, each of which provides specific benefits. Then one has no choice but to target a moon or a planet and start a tedious process of terraforming. This is done by manipulating the atmospheric composition, pressure and temperature, or by melting the ice caps on the poles (thus creating oceans full of life-giving water).
Interestingly enough, in addition to building colonies (as terraformation takes time, colonists are initially forced to live in specially prepared facilities), developers allow players to create new life forms and make changes to their genetic code, all in order to adapt them to the conditions prevailing on players' globes. On the other hand, the statistics available at any time inform about the progress made.
Technical aspects
The visuals in TerraGenesis consist mainly of various dialogues. However, the individual globes can be seen up close and their processes are reflected in their appearance.
