Tales of Innocence R is an RPG game produced by Namco Bandai studio, which is an improved and extended version of Tales of Innocence, designed for the Nintendo DS console, which was released in Japanese stores in 2007.
The RPG series from under the Tales of.... is certainly not as popular as Final Fantasy, but it has its own devoted fan base, also beyond the borders of Japan. The cycle, which has been supervised by Namco since its beginnings in 1995, includes at least a dozen games and many other related side titles.
The main protagonist of the story is Ruthenian, son of merchants living in Regnum, the capital of a powerful Empire involved in war with its neighbours. Admittedly, war unrest does not reach the city, but people are becoming more and more afraid of people with "extraordinary powers" that manifest themselves in a mysterious and inexplicable way in some inhabitants of the Empire. As a result of panic and fear in society, the authorities order to detain suspects of supernormal abilities, one of which turns out to be Ruthenian.
During the course of the game, players learn a rich story, solve many quests and tasks, and fight against a variety of opponents. The combat system is similar to what fans may know from other parts of the series. The fight takes place in real time, players can directly control one of the four team members and move freely in the three-dimensional arena using special attacks, items and magic skills. The other members of the team are controlled by AI, whose behavior during the fight can be freely modified, using scripts prepared by the creators. At the end of a skirmish, the game awards points, depending on the speed and strength of the opponents. In addition to equipment and objects, the characters of the heroes can also use "styles". At the same time the hero can use only one "style" to which specific attacks and abilities are assigned, as well as bonuses for different statistics.
The interface of the new version of the game takes full advantage of the possibilities offered by the Vita touchscreen, replaces the control and commands that we issued in the original version of the title using the style and DSa touchscreen. In addition to the changes in control, the creators also introduced new characters, scripts, quests, film interludes and music.
