Alice: Madness Returns
Action
June 14, 2011
A third-person action game with elements of 3D platformer and adventure game, designed by American McGee and his Spice Horse studio. Similarly to the previous work of that developer, i.e. American McGee’s Alice, also this game is a reinterpretation of a novel by Lewis Carroll. After ten years of dealing with catatonic schizophrenia caused by the tragic death of her parents, the eponymous heroine has a chance of getting back to a normal life. However, a hypnosis session at a psychiatrist ends up with Alice returning to Wonderland, which has greatly degenerated since the protagonist’s last visit. In Alice: Madness Returns you explore a string of locations, jump over platforms, avoid numerous traps, solve various logic puzzles and fight opponents using unusual weapons – such as a kitchen knife or a deck of deadly cards. The adventures are presented in high-quality audiovisuals with a unique art style – locations known from the original story were recreated in a much darker, distorted version.

Pathologic 2
RPG
May 23, 2019
Remake of a unique horror action adventure game from Ice-Pick Lodge, which originally launched in 2005 for PC. Its new version was created according to the developers’ first concept, which was previously impossible to realize in full, due to technological and financial limitations. Pathologic takes you to a small town, whose citizens suffer from a mysterious disease. In order to combat the epidemic the local authorities hire a group of independent individuals, whose task is to stop the spread of the virus before it is too late. All characters work independently from each other and conduct their own investigations. When compared with the original version, Pathologic Remake offers much better graphics, generated by the Unity engine. Emphasis was also put on new quests and plots, better gameplay balance, and improved AI of NPCs, as well as professional voiceover, the lack of which was the biggest fault of the original game.
Figment
Adventure
September 22, 2017
An action-adventure game offering a surrealistic atmosphere and developed by Bedtime Digital Games. Figment is set in a world which depicts the subconsciousness of a 40-year-old man. When his calm mind got attacked by nightmares symbolizing everyday frights, two friends stood up to them. Dusty is an embodiment of courage; as for Rusty, she manifests optimism and bears a resemblance to birds. The game is played from an isometric view and the experience is based mainly on exploring locations filled with traps and fighting enemies and bosses encountered. Interestingly, the stronger enemies sometimes are not eager to fight and only through backing them into a corner can the player confront them, which requires finding the weak spots of the adversary and taking advantage of them. The game world is filled with sounds and music, which illustrates the player's actions. The in-game environments are presented with thr use of colorful, hand-drawn graphics reminiscent of the works by Salvador Dali.

The Franz Kafka Videogame
Adventure
April 6, 2017
A classic point-and-click adventure game by Denis Galanin, the creator of Hamlet or last game without MMORPG elements, shaders, and product placement. The plot of The Franz Kafka Videogame was inspired by the works and life of the eponymous writer. The story, however, is not an exact copy of its literary predecessors, but follows a different plot, in which you can find references to e.g. the novels The Castle and America, as well as the stories The Judgement, The Metamorphosis, and others. The gameplay consists of exploring and solving logic puzzles, which require analytical thinking and the ability to associate facts. The visuals of The Franz Kafka Videogame feature hand-drawn 2D backgrounds and simple animations in a style resembling that of René Magritte's paintings.
Rusty Lake Hotel
Adventure
December 14, 2015
A surrealistic point-and-click adventure game developed by the Dutch Rusty Lake studio. In the game we are taken to a mysterious animal hotel which is visited by five guests. Our task is to “take care” of them properly — kill them, that is. We have to tend separately to each of the five unfortunate guests, shortening their life by various means, for example poisoning. The gameplay mechanics are typical for a classical point-and-click production and boil down to visiting subsequent locations in search of useful items that are necessary to solve puzzles. While playing, we have to exhibit considerable amounts of ingenuity, imagination, perceptiveness, and deductions skills. Rusty Lake Hotel is characterized by relatively simple 2D graphics and a dark, somewhat surrealistic atmosphere.

Some of them will require only a pull of lever, others will make us manipulate the game's environment or the camera angle. We will also collect gems and pieces of statuettes that will alow us to rebuild the forgotten ancestors' statues. After the End: Forsaken Destiny's visuals bring games like Journey and Monument Valley to mind and are the title's strong suit.
Rusty Lake: Roots
Adventure
October 20, 2016
A point ‘n’ click adventure game developed by Rusty Lake, the creators of the well-received Rusty Lake Hotel. In Rusty Lake: Roots, we assume the role of James Vanderboom who inherited a house and a special seed, which, if sown, will enable him to start his own family. The action is set in the 19th and 20th century, and the player controls three generations of Vanderbooms. Although Rusty Lake: Roots features many references to previous works of the studio, we don’t need knowledge of them to understand the plot. The gameplay is based on exploration of our surroundings and solving logic and environmental puzzles. Moreover, talking with non-player characters is also an important aspect of the game. The on-screen events, the characters, and puzzles alike have a surreal, even dark feel to them. The atmosphere is emphasized by two-dimensional graphics and matching music.
