Street Fighter Alpha Description
Street Fighter Alpha is a console port of Capcom's arcade fighting game, realsed in 1995 in Japan and a year later in the rest of the world. Released on PS1, the production is the first, since Street Fighter II, completely new installment of the popular franchise.
Story
Street Fighter Alpha's action is set before the events of the second installment of the series, so the characters look much younger than in the iconic production. In addition, this enabled the devs to add Charlie to the cast, who is considered dead in during the events of Street Fighter II. Contrary to its direct sequels, Alpha 2 and Alpha 3, the plot presented here was considered by the producer to be non-canonical, which means that it is not an official part of the history of the cycle.
Mechanics
Street Fighter Alpha develops the formula of Capcom's previous fighting games, focusing on one-on-one duels between masters of martial arts. The game offers ten playable characters with different skills and special attacks. Among them we can find veterans of the series, such as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Sagat, as well as debutants: Birdie, Adon, Charlie and Rose. Two Final Fight characters, Guy and Sodom, also joined the group of available characters. In addition to dozens of standard fighters, there are also three secret warriors in the game.
The game introduces numerous improvements to the combat system. Particularly significant is the three-level special attack bar, which warriors fill up during combat and can then use to perform extremely powerful attacks or unique counter-attacks.
Other novelties include the ability to block blows in mid-air and a completely new method of attack sequence execution called Chain Combos. To open up to newcomers, the title also offers a simplified controls variant in which, for example, blocking or execution of some attacks is automated at the expense of reducing the bar of special attacks from triple to single.
