An FPS with roguelike mechanics, created for VR headsets and based on the popular action film. Starship Troopers: Continuum allows us to control soldiers of the Federation, fighting hordes of Arachnids. The game supports singleplayer and co-op for up to 3 players.
Starship Troopers: Continuum is a shooter with roguelike elements, based on the license of the 1997 film Starship Troopers. The game was developed with virtual reality goggles in mind, and it was created by XR Games studio, which has projects such as Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever and Zombie Army VR in its portfolio. It made its debut on the Meta Quest platform.
Plot
In Starship Troopers: Continuum we find ourselves in the middle of a war between the Federation and the Arachnids that has reached a stalemate. However, the secret hidden by the planet Janus-4 may tip the scales of victory to one side.
The game tells the story of a group of recruits who land in Camp Triumph. Although little resistance was expected from the space bugs, in practice it turned out that there are a lot of them here. The struggle for the survival of the soldiers begins, and whether they manage to come out of it in one piece will determine the final outcome of the conflict, and consequently - the fate of the entire Federation.
Gameplay
In Starship Troopers: Continuum we view the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). We take on the role of a PsyCommander who can take control of his subordinates. He is the result of an experiment with the titular Continuum, a psychic weapon created to end the war.
As soldiers, we are engaged in the extermination of enemy hordes. Although we most often deal with the so-called "cannon fodder" appearing in huge quantities, from time to time we have to face bosses. On the battlefield we make use of over 20 types of weapons and paranormal abilities. Skillful use of the latter, as well as being constantly on the move, conducting accurate fire and quick reloading, are the key to success here.
As we progress, we develop soldiers, so that over time they can face increasingly greater challenges. However, it is worth remembering that the death of a given soldier is permanent - when they fall, their team must continue to fight without them or start the whole journey from the beginning.
Game modes
Starship Troopers: Continuum can be played solo, but the title really shines in online co-op mode for up to three people.
Technical aspects
Starship Troopers: Continuum requires virtual reality headsets. The game utilizes the unique capabilities of PlayStation VR2, led by adaptive triggers and haptic vibrations, as well as the eye-tracking feature.
