RPG

May 28, 2010

An espionage action game with distinct RPG elements, developed by Obsidian Entertainment. The player assumes the role of Michael Thorton – a secret agent whose main task is to unravel a conspiracy that threatens the political balance of the entire world. During his adventure, the main protagonist visits different parts of the globe (such as Rome, Moscow, and Taipei), and the task he has been assigned requires him to make difficult decisions, resulting in measurable results later on. In Alpha Protocol: The Espionage RPG the action is presented from a third-person perspective. Key gameplay aspects are the conversations with NPCs that one can handle in three ways (aggressive, professional, and suave) – the approach taken by the player has a direct effect on the interlocutors’ behavior and might result in either acquiring new friends or severing relations with a given organization. Depending on the chosen specialty, missions can be executed in a number of different ways – nothing stands in the player’s way to initiate shootouts; however, it is also worth considering to sneak past enemies and take them down from surprise. As the story progresses, Michael makes use of a constantly growing number of both active and passive skills. Moreover, for each achievement one receives additional perks, which offer stat bonuses and additional experience. The character development system is well complimented with diversified equipment comprising armor, weapons, and gadgets.

Action

November 28, 2002

A third-person stealth action game by Ubisoft Montreal, inspired by the works of the famous Tom Clancy and the NetForce novel series. We assume the role of Sam Fisher, a federal agent and an operative of a secret unit within NSA (National Security Agency). The protagonist's task is to perform missions given to him by the agency, usually involving elimination of incredibly dangerous enemies, destroying documents, or infiltrating secret installations. Contrary to such series as Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon, where the emphasis is put on teamwork and commanding a unit, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell focuses on controlling one character, making it more of a stealth game. There is no shortage of open confrontation opportunities in the title, though. In such scenarios, we can choose from 13 available weapons and other useful gadgets.

A direct sequel of the 2004 real-time strategy game from Elixir Studios. The continuation is developed by Rebellion studio, which decided to stick to a proven idea. Evil Genius 2 returns to the titular villain and his malicious plans. The story inspired by classic spy movies offers the same unique humor that first game became renowned for. The most important feature of the gameplay is the development of a secret super base – we build rooms with specific functions while also defending from attacks of law enforcers. We deal with crime fighters by sending out our henchmen, constructing fancy traps and equipping our soldiers with unusual weaponry. All of this is complemented by managing our financial and technological supply base, with our main source of income being more or less complicated missions that throw us to different parts of the world. Evil Genius 2 is the first RTS to use the Asura technology created by the British developers at Rebellion.
