Skul: The Hero Slayer Description
Skul: The Hero Slayer is a roguelike, made in the convention of an action platform game. The game was developed by the independent SouthPAW Games studio and published by NeoWiz.
Plot
Skul: The Hero Slayer takes us on a journey to a fantastic land. Demon King's Castle was attacked by the combined forces of adventurers and an imperial army led by the mighty Hero of Caerleon. The fortress quickly surrendered, and almost all creatures inhabiting it were taken prisoner. Almost, because there is one skeleton left in the wild, that is the Skul. From now on it is up to him to save the king and his subordinates and to deal with the invaders.
Mechanics
In Skul: The Hero Slayer we observe the action from the side-scroll perspective. During the game we go through various procedurally generated levels and face hordes of enemies. The headless Skul in its standard form is not very powerful, and therefore virtually every enemy it encounters is a deadly threat. Along the way, however, he finds skulls, which are the local equivalent of character classes and provide him with various abilities. While some may make him a battle-hardened swordsman or allow him to cast offensive spells like a real sorcerer, others will turn him into a terrifying monster. At the same time, we can have two skulls with us, which allows us to combine their power in effective (and efficient) combinations and adjust our skills to the situation we are in.
Various enemies stand in our way - apart from soldiers and adventurers we have to face, among others, talking trees; at the end of each stage we have to face a powerful boss (usually much bigger than the protagonist). As death here is permanent, when the Skul confesses its spirit, there will be nothing left to do but to start the fight again. However, the hero retains the crystals gained from previous approaches, which allow the purchase of various improvements.
Technical aspects
Skul: The Hero Slayer has two-dimensional graphics made in pixel art technique and maintained in a pleasant, colourful style.
