Shing!

Shing! is a spectacular beat'em up, in which we play the role of ninja warriors hunting mythical beasts called Yokai. The game offers a quite complex combat system and spectacular three-dimensional setting. Apart from the single-player mode, we can also have fun in a four-person co-op module. The title was developed and published by the Polish studio Mass Creation (known from Draw Slasher and Run Like Hell!).

Plot

In Shing! we take on the role of a hunter, pursuing demons called Yokai, who tries to find the mythical Starseed.

Mechanics

Shing! is a classic beat'em up, in which the action is observed from the side. The game is about exploring locations and eliminating enemies. During the game we visit a number of different locations - we traverse cities illuminated by neon lights, ruins of ancient civilizations and dangerous, foggy swamps.

The game starts with choosing one of the four available heroes, but during thegame we can freely switch between them. Each hero has specific characteristics, special attacks, animations and weapons - for example, Tetsuo wields a katana, Wilhelm uses an axe and Bichiko keeps her enemies at bay with a naginata.

The combat system enables us to perform dodges, counter attacks, as well as parry enemy blows. The controls are also interestingly designed - the left analog stick on the pad allows us to move, while the right one offers immediate access to various attacks, which can be freely combined.

In addition ot usual opponents, Shing! also has us face bosses from time to time. To defeat them, we'll have to use the right tactics.

Game modes

Shing!can be played solo or with others. The game offers a single-player mode, but if we want to, we can also invite three other players to play together in the co-op mode. It is worth noting that we can play together both locally (on a common screen) and via the Internet.

Technical aspects

Shing! features nice, three-dimensional visuals, which are characterized by high quality of effect. Character models are nicely animated and their attacks do a great job at dismembering their opponents. The detailed locations and lighting effects are also very impressive. The artistic style is very colorful and reminiscent of a cartoon, but it should be noted that the game is really brutal and bloody, so it is not suitable for youngest players.
