Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is a set of beat'em ups based on the licence of the cult Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Compilation was created by Digital Eclipse studio, which specializes in refreshing classics and preparing such packages, and Konami company.

Plot

In the games included in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection we play as the titular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo fight against the forces of evil, personified by Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady, among others.

Game mechanics

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is made up of thirteen games from 8-bit and 16-bit desktop consoles, handhelds and arcade machines. We are talking about the following titles: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (SNES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Mega Drive), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Mega Drive), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy).

Each of them features side-scrolling action, and the gameplay, as befits a true brawler, is all about going right through various locations (from sewers to futuristic bases) and eliminating hordes of enemies. The core of the gameplay remains unchanged in relation to the original, although the authors enriched it with a number of features that were absent in those games. These include the ability to save the game at any time, rewind gameplay or change the button layout. What's more, the whole thing has been expanded to include guides to help you tackle the more challenging parts of each game.

To top it all off, there's a special museum where players can check out artwork from the animated series and comics, as well as various concept sketches, among other things.

Game modes

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is available to play solo or in local multiplayer mode. In addition, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters all feature online multiplayer.

Technical aspects

The audiovisual setting of the games in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection remained unchanged in comparison to the originals. Therefore, we are dealing with colourful, pixel-art graphics, and the game takes place to the accompaniment of a chiptune soundtrack.
