Double Dragon Trilogy

Double Dragon Trilogy is a compilation of the first three installments in the cult brawler games series designed for PC, AND and iOS. The franchise was established in 1987 on arcade machines, while its two follow-ups were released in 1988 and 1990. The remastered versions of these over 25-year-old classics were handled by DotEmu, experts at preparing re-editions of good, old hits.
Plot
Created with the view of cooperative gameplay, Double Dragon Trilogy is a tale of two brothers – Billy and Jimmy Lee – Sou-Setsu-Ken masters, who run a small school of Asian martial arts in a post-apocalyptic New York. In the first game, the two brothers set out to help Billy’s girlfriend, Marian, kidnapped by the Black Warriors gang. The second part tells of the brothers’ revenge for the death of Marian and their struggle to find a way of returning the girl to life. In the third installment, the heroes travel around the world in search of mythical Rosetta stones, which are supposed to stop the ancient evil lurking in Egypt.
Mechanics
All games comprising Double Dragon Trilogy feature similar gameplay mechanics. The heroes keep moving to the right side of the screen, while eliminating waves of enemies using a pretty impressive set of punches and kicks (including knee punches and head-butts) as well as not really legal weapons. The game offers two modes: Arcade Mode – in which your main goal is to get a high score – and Story Mode, progressing in which unlocks new arenas and achievements. The game can be played either solo or in co-op mode.
Technical aspects
Double Dragon Trilogy for PC, AND and iOS returns with slightly enhanced graphics, using modern visual filters. However, the traditionalists can turn on the original graphics. Unlike the original games, the remasters offer three levels of difficulty: easy, original and expert. You can also choose whether you want to hear remastered or the original 8-bit audio. Other new features are the option to customize controls as well as support for pads.
