MotoGP Video Game Series
A series of motorcycle racing games, based on the Grand Prix motorcycle racing license. MotoGP games are available both on consoles and PC, as well as on mobile devices. Over the years, the brand changed publishers; initially it was overseen by Namco, then it was moved to THQ, from there it went to Capcom, and in 2013 it ended up in the hands of Milestone studio.
The roots of the series go back to 2000, to MotoGP released for PlayStation 2. That game gave rise to a series developed by Namco for the next six years, until the release of... another MotoGP, but this time released only for PlayStation Portable. In the meantime, the rights to the MotoGP franchise was also obtained by THQ, which began developing its own series in 2002 - MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology. Four years later, the American series has received a kind of rebranding, and its two subsequent installments were MotoGP '06 and MotoGP '07. In 2007, Capcom took charge of the development of the brand, which for the purpose of this project partnered with the Italian studio Milestone. The fruits of this cooperation were two games - MotoGP '07 for PlayStation 2 and the multiplatform MotoGP '08. The development of the next two games, released by Capcom, MotoGP 09/10 and MotoGP 10/11, were developed by Monumental Games.
Since 2013, the development of the series has again been handled by Milestone studio, which has become its most experienced developer. Although the studio initially established partnerships with publishers, most of the games from the series were self-published. Starting with MotoGP 13, successive games from the series were released at yearly intervals and were numbered according to the years in which they were released, with the exception of Valentino Rossi: The Game, which took the place of the never-released MotoGP 16.
A common feature of the MotoGP games is the focus on simulation. The Grand Prix motorcycle racing license allows developers to include authentic team names and symbols, names and character models of riders, as well as real tracks and motorcycles.
In MotoGP games players generally receive a choice of several variants of gameplay, ranging from training, through a single race, to a full season or career. In addition, most of them offer multiplayer, allowing us to play with other players on a split-screen or over the Internet.
Games in the MotoGP series usually offer high-quality audiovisual settings. The developers usually choose to carefully recreate not only the details of individual motorcycles, but also the appearance and shape of the race tracks. The newer games also added variable weather conditions, which have a real impact on the course of the competition.
