Mega Man Video Game Series
A series of platform and action games with a friendly robot in the title role. The series was created by Capcom and is among the most important brands in the Japanese publisher's portfolio.
The fathers of the series Mega Man are Akira Kitamura, Tokuro Fujiwara and Keiji Inafune. The first installment of the series was released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System console. Since then, Capcom has released more than 50 games about the adventures of the titular robot, which have hit more than 20 hardware platforms. The brand includes five sub-cycles categorized as mainstream: Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX i Mega Man Legends, as well as two spin-offs: Mega Man Battle Network i Mega Man Star Force.
Due to the number and variety of games in the series, there are ambiguities and even contradictions in the structure of the Mega Man universe and the chronology of events (in part, Capcom managed to clarify the course of the plot based on book publications). In most cases, the action is set in the future, and players direct the actions of a robot named Rock (or its successive generations), who must save the world from a threatening danger.
Classic installments of the series Mega Man were arcade platformers. Over time, however, the developers decided to diversify the fun by introducing action game elements, which in several cases dominated the gameplay. The common denominator of the games of the series is primarily the main character - a blue android equipped with a characteristic weapon (Mega Buster).
Visuals of the games in the series Mega Man is maintained in manga style. Depending on the nature of the sub-cycle and the capabilities of the target hardware platforms, the graphics can be two- or three-dimensional. Such composers as Manami Matsumae, Yuko Takehara, Ippo Yamada and Kouji Murata are responsible for the music accompanying the game.
The commercial success of the series Mega Man is more than 29 million copies of the games sold worldwide. The brand's popularity has also been reflected in the form of anime series, manga comics, science-fiction novels and even collectible figurines.
