The King of Fighters Video Game Series
A series of 2D arcade brawlers. The series was created by Japanese studio SNK as a response to the popularity of such brands as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Currently, the intellectual property rights to the brand are held by SNK Playmore.
The origins of the series The King of Fighters dates back to 1994. The first installment of the series was released for popular game machines and was a compilation of characters from other brawlers from the SNK studio (including. Fatal Fury and The Art of Fighting). Over the course of 30 years, the brand lived to see 24 installments, including 13 included in the mainstream and nine spin-offs, which were released on the most popular hardware platforms.
In most of the games in the series The King of Fighters the leitmotif is a tournament of martial arts masters, with threads interwoven, including a thirst for revenge, dark corporate interests and a quest to gain control of ancient powers. In terms of the plot, three sub-cycles can be distinguished. The first, developed between 1995 and 1997, is the trilogy The Orochi Saga, which consists of: The King of Fighters'95, The King of Fighters'96 i The King of Fighters'97. With the release of The King of Fighters'99 the developers launched another three-part story - the The NESTS Chronicles. For the third sub-cycle - Tales of Ash however, includes four games: The King of Fighters 2003, The King from Fighters XI, The King from Fighters XII and The King from Fighters XIII).
As befits a classic 2D arcade brawler, the games in the series The King of Fighters allow you to take control of a selected hero (or a team of several heroes) and take part in spectacular duels in arenas. The gallery of available characters usually offers from a dozen to several dozen fighters, each equipped with an individual set of special attacks and moves.
Visuals of the games in the series The King of Fighters is maintained in manga style. The two-dimensional graphics are based on hand-drawn backgrounds and impressive character movement animations.
