Sam & Max Video Game Series
Sam & Max is a humorous adventure series based on the license of the comic book, with a friendly pair of heroes in the title roles. The brand was created by the LucasArts studio, and its development is currently handled by Telltale Games studio.
Genesis of the series Sam & Max is connected with a series of comic books created in the 1980s by Steve Purcell. The author was employed by LucasArts, which initially used the characters of Sam and Max in training software. Over time, however, studio executives decided to produce a game based on the popular SCUMM scripting language. The adventure game Sam & Max Hit the Road saw the light of day in 1993. Despite several attempts at subsequent projects (Sam & Max: Plunge Through Space, Sam & Max Freelance Police and others) failed to materialize. Only when in 2005 the license for games in the universe of Sam & Max studio Telltale Games took over, there was a chance for a sequel. The new developer decided to fundamentally change the formula, releasing the games in episodic form. On the first fire went Sam & Max Save the World (2006) and Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space (2007-2008). The next part of the series - Sam & Max 3: The Devil's Playhouse was released with a slight time slip in 2010
The common denominator of the games in the series Sam & Max are the characters of the main protagonists. Independent police officers - dog Sam and crazy rabbit Max. The plot usually has a strong twist and is rich in humorous touches and references to mass culture phenomena.
The gameplay is based on elements well known to fans of graphic adventures. Guided by the player, the characters visit various locations, search for objects, talk to NPCs and solve puzzles.
The first installment of the series Sam & Max had a simple, two-dimensional graphic design in a comic book style. With the release of Sam & Max Save the World the developers decided to make a radical change and introduce 3D graphics, generated by the Telltale Tool engine. There was also a jazz music track with songs composed by Jared Nathaniel Emerson-Johnson.
