Oddworld Video Game Series
A series of platform adventure games set on the title planet, inhabited by friendly Mudokons. The Oddworld Inhabitants development team is responsible for the creation and development of the brand, with support from Digital Dialect, Saffire and Just Add Water studios. "Godparents" of the series Oddworld are Lorne M. Lanning and Sherry McKenna. The first installment of the series - Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - was released in 1997 in the version for PC and PlayStation console. The production was well received by adventure game fans, as evidenced by the average reviewer rating of 85/100 (according to metacritic.com). This encouraged the developers to develop the idea into a full-fledged series. The main games in the series include: Oddworld: Abe's Oddyse (1997), Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (1998), Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee (2001) i Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (2005). In addition, over the course of more than 23 years, the developers were also tempted by a number of ports aimed at portable consoles (e.g. Oddworld Adventures) as well as remastered versions and bundles. The most important attempt to refresh the series was the game released in 2014 Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty. The production was a remake of the first installment from 1997. The developers managed to maintain the characteristic atmosphere of the original, while improving the mechanics, which were already a bit clumsy at the time. The most important changes were the introduction of the option to communicate with several Mudokons at the same time and the inclusion of a previously absent fast save option. The success of the production prompted the developers to develop plans for the restoration of subsequent parts. As a result, a premiere has been announced for the end of 2020 for PC, PS4 and PS5 Oddworld: Soulstorm, loosely based on the second installment of the 1998 game Abe's Exoddus. The title presents an even darker and more terrifying view of the world and is a direct sequel to New N' Tasty, both in terms of storyline and using the gameplay mechanics that were improved in it.
The action of the games in the series Oddworld is inextricably linked with the adventures of the inhabitants of the titular volcanic planet. The plot revolves around the struggles of the peaceful Mudokon race, which has been enslaved by the cruel Glukkons. The heroes, such as Abe, Munch and Stranger, must rescue their fellows from the hands of their oppressors. The gameplay mechanics combine elements of adventure, platform and action games. Visiting successive locations on the planet Oddworld, the player-controlled protagonist encounters NPCs and solves more or less complicated tasks, generally requiring the manipulation of environmental elements. The series is distinguished by visuals in subdued colors, often combining elements of 2D and 3D graphics. The game is accompanied by atmospheric background music. Popularity of the series Oddworld has translated into sales results. It is estimated that a total of more than 7 million players have purchased games from the series. The brand has been honored with more than 100 industry awards. A short film based on Oddworld: Abe's Exodus even earned a Grammy Award nomination.

Oddworld: Soulstorm is another game in the popular platform-adventure game series developed by Oddworld Inhabitants Inc. and Frima Studio. The game is a direct sequel to Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a 2013 remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and is loosely based on Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. Once again, we control Abe, a friendly Mudokon who managed to escape from the Glukkon's grip, and now leads three hundred of rescued Mudokons into the unknown. Our hero and his companions travel across the endless desert and face shortages of food and water. They find relief in a certain addicting brew. Gameplay in Oddworld: Soulstorm did not change that much since the first 2013 New ‘n’ Tasty. It is still a 2.5D platform-adventure game where we have to rely on Abe's and his fellow Mudokons' abilities. The game, however, is a bit darker in terms of stylistics.

A two-dimensional platform game with traits of an adventure game and a stealth game. The title, developed by Oddworld Inhabitants, takes place in an unknown planet inhabited by the race of Mudokons. The main protagonist of the game, Abe, is a Mudokon as well. The race is being abused by evil Glukkons, who force them to slave labor in a mine. When the protagonist discovers the new plans of the “master race” (they want to process Mudokons into tasty food), he decides to escape and save his friends from the danger. In Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee the player is jumping between platforms, sneaking up behind the backs of their opponents and solving various environmental riddles. During the game the protagonist can also give orders to other Mudokons. Since the protagonist has no health bar or energy, a single enemy hit is enough to kill him – in that case Abe respawns at the beginning of the level. The title lacks any interface – all information is presented in the level or on special tutorial screens.
