Sentry is a sci-fi FPS with tower defense mechanics. It was developed by Fireblade Software, an indie studio also known for Abandon Ship.

Plot

Sentry is set in a grim future, in which Earth has fallen to an alien invasion. The few survivors are panically fleeing aboard spaceships. Since they're easy prey for aggressors, the titular Sentries, soldiers of the Defense Program, are tasked with protecting them. We play as one such hero, fighting off enemy assaults aboard our ship.

Mechanics

Sentry is a first-person game. Our main objective is taking down waves of enemies attacking our ship. The enemies target specific subsystems and areas of the ship, as we must stop them from achieving their objectives.

There are plenty of ways to foil their plans. First and foremost, the player can wield firearms to combat them directly. There are also many traps and automated turrets to be placed at key points of the ship. We can also shut doors behind us to buy some time for setting up more defenses.

As a last resort, we can even sacrifice part of the ship to save the rest. It's worth noting losing a fight doesn't mean losing the game. If our Sentry dies on the battlefield, they're replaced by a new one. As long as we keep the ship's crucial subsystems online, there's always a chance to win.

Game modes

Sentry features several short scenarios which can be replayed as often as we please, unlocking permanent upgrades and achieving better high scores. The game supports singleplayer and online co-op.
