Seclusion: Islesbury, available on PC, is a horror adventure game, in which a player has to conduct an investigation on a mysterious murder that took place a decade before. The game is a debut project of an independent Turkish studio called Silent House games, oriented at creating dark and atmospheric adventure games.
Plot
In the game, a player assumes the role of detective Jason Endel, who wants to reach inner peace after some tumultuous events from his past. The fate, however, tosses the main protagonist to the city of Islesbury, which long time ago has been nearly razed to the ground as a result of mass riots and general rebellion against the spreading poverty. Today, the Islesbury’s streets are completely empty, and most of the building is in ruin. In the light of newly discovered pieces of evidence, Endel starts the investigation on a mysterious murder that took place 10 years before. He does not expect, however, that during his stay in this God forsaken city he will have to face his worst nightmares.
Mechanics
Players get to observe the action from the first-person perspective. The gameplay mechanics fall under the solutions known from the point-and-click adventure games genre. On his journey, a player can explore dark locations in the city, as well as in the nearby woods and cliffs. One’s adventure comes down to solving consecutive logical puzzles, which together are bound to show the infamous truth behind the past events. In terms of its atmosphere, the game developed by the Turkish studio features clear inspirations drawn from the works of none other than H.P. Lovecraft.
Technical aspects
The PC release of Seclusion: Islesbury is based on the Dagon graphics engine, created by Senscape for adventure games – also used in other games such as Asylum, this engine ensures high-quality of visuals, putting a strong emphasis on the dark nature of the game’s story.
