Rise of Piracy Description
Rise of Piracy is an independent strategy game with RPG elements by Spideog Studios, set on the seas in the years 1600-1900. The game is set in an open world and grants us lots of freedom, letting us earn wealth and reputation through trade, diplomacy and combat.
Plot
Rise of Piracy has us playing as a rookie captain, starting off with a poorly equipped ship and little funds. In time, we can start showcasing our skills and becoming famous. To do so, we must establish relationships with available factions, look for treasure, lead a dreaded pirate crew or a merchant fleet.
Mechanics
The world of Rise of Piracy is constantly changing. Regardless of our actions, nations clash, gaining or losing wealth and influence. The seas are also full of criminals and bounty hunters. The player can affect the fates of each of these groups. Completing missions for factions makes them into powerful allies, but can potentially get us many enemies as well.
There's also plenty of naval combat, during which we can sink enemy vessels or capture them via boarding. We can take part in massive battles between entire fleets or take over areas to gain constant income. The environments are destructible, so we'll get to see strongholds fall to our cannon fire.
The game includes over 30 realistic units from different time periods, each with different load capacity, maneuverability and firepower. Ships need crew to operate, and we can recruit said crew in taverns. They'll prove themselves useful both on the sea and during land battles. We can recruit cutlass-wielding sailors and firearm-wielding officers.
More pacifistic players can act as merchants, trading over two hundred kinds of goods, discovering new trade routes and establishing relations with various factions. Our diplomatic skills will come in handy then, as they'll let us avoid conflict.
Game modes
Rise of Piracy is mostly a singleplayer game, but it does include online combat against other players on special arenas, which we can take part in solo or with our friends.
