Rick Dangerous 32 is a remake of the classic platformer, prepared by French programmer Arnaud Carré. The player plays the role of the title archaeologist, who sets off on an expedition to the Amazon basin to determine whether the rumours about the existence of the missing Gool tribe are true. However, as a result of a fatal failure of the plane, our hero is forced to land in the middle of the jungle in an emergency. On the spot, it turns out that the Gool tribe does exist, but does not intend to become an experimental object of an American scientist. Rick is forced to flee and this is how a fantastic adventure begins.
Rick is equipped with two weapons: a pistol and a dynamite. Both can successfully kill enemies, but only with explosives will it be possible to remove obstacles. As ammunition is limited, it is important to think carefully about whether it is worth choosing a weapon at all, all the more so as some opponents can be easily jumped over. It is true that from time to time it is possible to regenerate the arsenal by collecting appropriate boxes, but their amount is inversely proportional to our needs. In addition, you need to prepare for the numerous terrain traps. There are so many different spikes, cages falling on the head and bullets that it's hard to break through without remembering their location beforehand. To sum up, the game is relatively difficult and requires a lot of patience on the part of the player. Even a large number of additional lives does not help, but that's the charm of arcade games.
Compared to the 1989 product, Rick Dangerous 32 looks much better. The French programmer implemented the game's audio-visual setting from the Atari ST version, thanks to which PeCet owners received a program as close to the original as possible. An additional advantage of the remake is the fact that it works under Windows control and takes up only 32 kilobytes on the disk. Another improvement is the improvement in control, which in the original PC version was not one of the most convenient.
