Boulder Dash: 30th Anniversary for PC is an special anniversary edition of Boulder Dash series released to honor the 30th anniversary of this classic series. The game was developed by Tap Star Interactive, a studio established by Chris Gray and Peter Liepa, the creators of the first Boulder Dash which was released in 1984 for a number of home systems and arcade machines.

Mechanics

As always, we begin the game by choosing a hero – Boulder Dash: 30th Anniversary offers a choice of a few heroes, including the series regulars such as Rockford and Crystal. Our goal is to explore complicated cave systems in search of valuables protected by monsters and falling stones. Each hero can dig his way through dirt, as well as clear large portions of the cave by making vertical and horizontal movements. The walls and other obstacles found around the area often create difficult bottlenecks that require additional thought and movement.

Interestingly enough, Boulder Dash: 30th Anniversary is the first installment in the history of the series, which adds new mechanics to the stale model seen over the years. The authors introduced incline walls and a level editor that offers the ability to share your works with the online community. Moreover, we’ve received new monsters and pick-ups that offer additional bonuses. In all, the new edition offers 220 levels designed by Chris Gray, Peter Liepa, and Richard Spitalny, the founders of First Star Interactive, the company which currently holds all the rights to the game and its registered trademark. The most engaged players can acquire two additional DLCs consisting of 20 new levels each.
