Revenant Hill is a side-scrolling adventure game developed by an indie team The Glory Society, founded in 2019 by Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson, two out of three creators of Night in the Woods. It was published by Finji, also known for their involvement with Feist and Overland. The game was revealed during the PlayStation Showcase 2023 and it is due to release on Steam, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Plot

The game is set in 1919, in Lower North. The game's protagonist is Twigs - a black, red-eyed cat. After the barn he used to call home burns down, he settles down in a wet log near an abandoned cemetery. Even here, however, he cannot find peace. When an own from a neighboring hill starts demanding rent, Twigs leaves to find happiness elsewhere.

Times are tough, making ends meet is difficult, while the world beyond the cemetary turns out to be much larger than the cat initially assumed. As if that wasn't enough, something big and dark casts a shadow over the towns, factories and forests Twigs passes by.

Mechanics

Just like the developers' previous game, Revenant Hill revolves around exploration, interacting with NPCs and uncovering the secrets of the game's world. The game is heavily narrative, conversations with other characters influencing the course of the story.

Technical aspects

Similarly to its predecessor, the artstyle of Revenant Hill is charming, yet disturbing. Both the characters and the beautiful locations are two-dimensional. The soundtrack was composed by Wren Farren.
