Return Fire is an arcade 3D shooter prepared by Silent Software studio, in which battles take place with the use of vehicles. The game originally appeared on the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer console.

Mechanics

Developed by Silent Software, Return Fire is an arcade shooter in which the camera presents the action in an isometric view. The players' task on subsequent levels is to capture a flag hidden in the enemy base and deliver it to their command center. The completion of the mission is made possible by the army of available vehicles, consisting of four types of machines with different features and strengths. In skirmishes you can steer a fast and agile all-terrain vehicle, which is the only one that can carry the flag, a heavily armored tracked vehicle, a combat helicopter and a tank. Each of these has a limited supply of fuel and ammunition, so controlling and replenishing fuel and bullets adds an extra strategic dimension to battles.

The maps on which the battles take place are full of natural traps, such as deep pools of water, as well as enemy fortresses and defensive turrets that try to damage the player's vehicles. The different levels are also full of elements to destroy, such as forests, palm trees and dozens of buildings.

Return Fire allows both solo players to have fun in battles against the artificial intelligence, as well as two players in split-screen encounters.

Technical aspects

Return Fire is a 3D game in a humorous, cartoonish style. The game is distinguished by the presence of classical music tracks, which accompany piloting a helicopter or driving with the captured flag. The tunes include Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee.
