Plot and characters
Given the fact that the latest add-on to Resident Evil Village, namely Winters’ Expansion, concluded the saga of the Winters started in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, we can expect that in the ninth part of the series, Capcom will either introduce us to a new character (or characters), or allow us to play as one of the heroes (or heroines) from the older installments of the series.
Changes in gameplay
- As reported by a well-known industry informant - Dusk Golem - Resident Evil 9 is to be consistent with the "DNA" of the brand, so we can expect that once again we will receive a pure survival horror game.
- Resident Evil 9 will be based on the RE Engine, created for the seventh part of the series and then developed both within it and in other games of the Japanese manufacturer, including Devil May Cry 5, Dragon's Dogma II and Monster Hunter: Wilds.
- Moreover, the already mentioned Dusk Golem suggested that the game should follow in the footsteps of the last two above-mentioned titles, offering us an open world. It would happen for the first time in the series history, however other games using RE Engine technology have proven that it is great for creating vast "sandboxes".
- The fact that Capcom is preparing such a change for us is also proven by the fact that the Japanese developers usually work on three new projects at the same time. This was the case with Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5. The next such "trio" could include open world games like Dragon’s Dogma II, Monster Hunter: Wilds and Resident Evil 9.
