PS4Blog.net: 8.5 / 10
Red's Kingdom is a very fun Metroidvania puzzle adventure that is very addictive, and even more so on Nintendo Switch since you can easily pick it up, play for 10-20 minutes, and then come back to it in similar gaming chunks, or go all in and spend hours with the game as you try to find everything it has to offer. It's simple gameplay mechanics make it an easy pick-up and play release, and its clever puzzle design and Metroidvania styling will have you coming back for more.
Cubed3: 5 / 10 by Ofisil
Red's Kingdom strives to combine simple rolling puzzles with the exploration part of a Zelda game... and it just doesn't manage to make the mix actually any fun, mainly because players will have to go through the chore of solving the same puzzles all over again... and more than once.
Rectify Gaming: 5.5 / 10 by Cole Rush
Red's Kingdom boasts a fun and cute aesthetic, but the gameplay on the Switch proves immensely frustrating. The game is better served as a small-doses adventure on mobile.
Red's Kingdom Description
Red's Kingdom is a logic game, enriched with elements taken from adventure and metroidvania genres. The title was developed by the independent studio Cobra Mobile, i.e. the authors of Storm in a Teacup, iBomber Attack and iBomber Defense.
Story
In Red's Kingdom we play the as the titular squirrel, who sets out to pursue Mad King Mac. The evil ruler not only kidnapped his father but also appropriated the Golden Nut which belongs to Red.
Mechanics
In Red's Kingdom we observe the action from an isometric view. The main character moves by rolling up into a ball and then rolling in a straight line on the ground which is divided into square fields; he will only stop after encountering an obstacle. Your task is to pick such routes as to allow Red to hit the target of your choice - be it an enemy, a switch, etc.
While journeying through the kingdom, which consists of seventeen different levels, you get to know the inhabitants of the land, solve environmental riddles based on manipulation of the environment, eliminate enemies (by crashing into them), and develop the special skills of your character. The abilities are especially important since it is only after obtaining a specific ability that the hero can reach locations that are otherwise not available (where various treasures are usually hidden).
Technical issues
The graphics in Red's Kingdom are kept in a light, cartoony style, which combined with a catchy soundtrack and a low level of difficulty makes this title suited to players of all ages.
